Within the scope of the subjects of Sciences and Physics & Chemistry, the 7th-grade students of Santa Maria high school, in partnership with Expolab (science center), visited the RAEGE Station.
This is the first year, of the academic path, in which spatial themes are addressed deeper, in Physics & Chemistry subject. Topics such as distances in the universe, solar system, the Earth, the Moon, and gravitational forces and the universe are taught in this subject. At the same time, in Sciences, an introduction to Geology is also made and it is, at this point, that topics such as terrestrial movements, dynamics of the planet Earth, seismology, and volcanology, are learned.
The visit to Santa Maria’s RAEGE Station culminates all this learning in one place because is at the RAEGE Station that the Earth is studied through Space. The structure and internal dynamics of the Earth and its consequences, such as volcanology and seismology, are part of the station's day-to-day life, so being able to converge all these lessons in one place is interesting for students as they can understand, in practice, the real applications of the school content they’re learning.
Santa Maria’s RAEGE takes the opportunity to thank Expolab – Centro de Ciência Viva (science center) and Santa Maria high school for their collaboration in the dissemination of science and also to the Vila do Porto Town Council for providing transportation for students.
